Terremoto - The Irpinia Earthquake of 1980

Terremoto
The mountains and hillsides of Italy make it one of the most beautiful places on earth. The very unfortunate consequence of this geological structure means that the entire Italian peninsula is continuously under threat of seismic activity.  In fact, over the last 1,000 years more than 250 earthquakes with a magnitude of 5.5 or above have been reported.
Most tragic to our beloved Calabritto and neighboring villages was the 1980 Irpinia Earthquake.  A Facebook page called "Riconoscere CALABRITTO nel MONDO dei ricordi prima del TERREMOTO 1980" is filled with heart-wrenching photographs and details.
